My name is Sheena. I am 30 years old and a mother of 3 beautiful children : Katie 10, Sarah 6. Matthew 1. I married my highschool sweetheart, Rick. We have been together for almost 12 years. I have had vitiligo since I was 10 years old and I wanted to share my experience with the world, and also any tips or ways to cope with it.
One summer day when I was 10 years old I decided to go to the pool with my friend, Jessica and her family. We spent the whole day there, and I can even remember her mother offering to rub lotion on me, but being a silly kid I refused. I got really bad sunburn. My sunburn was so bad that I developed sun poisioning. I was covered in blisters, my face was very swelled, my eyes were swollen up. Awhile after I healed I realized there were parts of my body that would not tan. I just started living that way, being a child, guess that I would eventually go back to normal. Years later, when I was around 15, my parents took me to see a dermotoligist. I found out what it was, given a tube of elecon, and the doctor saying it may help and it may not. I havent been back to the doctor since.
The parts of my body effected my vitiligo are my feet, legs, knees, pubic area, stomach and underarms. I have generalized vitiligo. Where I have it on one foot, it is in the same place, same size, on the other foot. I will be posting some pictures from a few years back of me in the summer when my vitiligo was very visible. I will also post about ways I cope with it and and my ways of covering it up. I will also be testing what I heard to be a "home remedy" for vitiligo. Im so excited to see how it goes! Lots of info will be shared here, so please stay tuned!
